Massage therapy is often used to help reduce pain and anxiety resulting from a trauma and it is common for clients to approach a Massage therapist for help. However, for people who have experienced trauma, touch can be foreign, threatening and reminding of past trauma. As a massage therapist, so much of what I do isn’t always focused on muscle adhesions, It’s about changing the nervous system via touch and relational skills, which are both equally capable of conveying care or re-traumatizing.
During my recent nursing career, I have provided care for people who have experienced trauma and learnt that showing care and compassion facilitates the client’s sense of safety, which is essential for creating an effective session. I use a method called Trusted Touch Therapy® which provides a compassionate, consensual and therapeutic experience to my clients.
This form of massage can be particularly beneficial for those who have experienced trauma, are lonely, touch-deprived, disabled, elderly, fragile or at the end of life.
I am happy to build a tailor-made care plan for you or your loved one dependent on your needs.
Massages can take place in your home, hospice or our clinic.
